What can I say and where do I begin? Yesterday was by far one of the best days of my life second only to my wedding day and the days that my children were born! From the day back in June when I first saw the MIMs sign up info with the tri as a culminating race and thinking to myself "I can do that" to actually standing in the water and getting ready to swim (and doing the sign of the cross with Jeanne) it was truly a magical day for me. There were a few tough spots, such as out by the bouys where it seemed all I could do was either dog paddle or flip over on my back while I caught my breath and my regained my mojo and of course that first mile long incline on the bike. It was also a thrill on that first hill when I passed several people while letting them know that they were doing great!
The bike ride was so beautiful and fun that at certain points I had tears in my eyes at how fantastic it was all going and how grateful I was to be there. Finishing the bike ride in less time than I had anticipated was also yet another phenomenal moment for me as was seeing my husband, children, sister and nephew at the entrance to the transition area following the bike.
The run was a little tough and I walked a bit more in the beginning than I would have wanted to. But I still finished in the time I anticipated if my legs were fatiuged so I was pretty happy with that. The run was also so fun because of getting to see so many friends, family and MIMs along the way.
Thanks to Karen and your crew (sorry I don't know your names, but I sure did love seeing your faces!)for cheering me on. Thanks to all the MIMs on the course who shared such good wishes as we headed toward the finish. Thanks to Denise Rhine, friend/neighbor MIM who loaned me her amazing road bike for the race which was a huge part of me having the kind of race that I had. Thanks to other fellow friends/neighbors MIMs Tania Beisheim, Lisa Slater, Kristin Havens and Julie Thomas for being such great training partners all summer long. We had the best summer together!
Thanks to Amy's husband Doug (and friends) for the tri clinic where I learned so much that helped me more yesterday than I can say. Thanks to all the MIMs that gave me
such great encouragement throughout the summer as well. So, as you can see I am one happy and grateful person and truly feel I can do anything I set my mind to.
Can't wait until the next one! See you all soon, Bonnie
