Here is why I do the triathlon at all: When my baby Brandon was 10 weeks old, he went to the hospital with menengitis. I was afraid he was going to die. After we brought him home, I got menengitis.

I layed in bed for two weeks and felt like I was going to die. My family brought me the newspaper everyday and I saw the triathlon advertisement. I wanted to be healthy again. Doing a triathlon was the picture of health to me so I focused on the thought that I could do a triathlon (I didn't focus on the fact that I couldn't swim.) After I got well, I needed to follow through with actually doing the triathlon. By finishing the race, my health and life were affirmed. I do the triathlon now to continue that affirmation.

Other thoughts: Doing a triathlon for the sake of doing a triathlon is easy. Doing it for speed is a bit harder but it's not as hard as other things in life. I've given birth, which was the hardest thing for me to do physically. I've had my baby Veronica die in my arms, which was the hardest for me to do emotionally. After those things, a triathlon is a piece of cake.
