I had some friends in Moms in Motion last summer and found out about it at that time. I was not able for a variety of reasons able to participate last summer except for training some days with these friends. I realized how much I enjoyed running or swimming on a regular basis and managed to work it into my schedule over the school year. The schedule fell into place.

My oldest child, a sophomore in high school did not get into all his classes and had to take a zero period (7am) class. He also swims and had 5:30am practice 3 days per week. So, he needed to get to practice and needed a ride to school. Thanks to the graciousness of his coach, I snagged a lane of my own at 5:30 and was able to swim 3 days per week. The other weekdays, I would bring him to school and then come to work at UCSB campus and use the stationary bikes or run before work.

I enjoyed the early start to my day. I feel like I have had sometime to myself and still had it work for other family members. My husband took our 13-year-old to school each day. They have come to be closer this year, too, as have my son and I. In the back of my mind, though I wondered about the group experience of training. Last summer, I had a taste of it. Well, once again through the graciousness and generosity of others, I have been able to participate fully this summer.

I have enjoyed the Saturday group trainings and supportive atmosphere. Besides the goals related to fitness, I am finding that the way has opened to work on other aspects of my life. I can set my goals, but am finding that sometimes the way will open for us when we least expect or plan for it. I hope I can give back to the group as much as I have already received.
