Wow, Moms In Motion came at a time when I really needed the structured hard workouts. Last June 2001, I took a stressful, time consuming position as the Emergency Dept. Manager at Cottage. I had been a Nurse for more then 15 years at this point and thought I should try Management. I went in to this position strong and eager. After about 6 months I realized I had no time for myself.
I had given up swimming at Los Banos (my favorite thing to do) and walking long distances. But instead I was working 50+ hours and always stressing about something at work. By May of 2002 I had enough and wanted my old job back. Granted, working 3 -12 hour shifts in the ER can be exhausting, I longed for my 4 days a week off to get my life back. I had gained 30+ lbs and was so out of shape.
In May I started a diet (Aikens) and quit the management June 1st and started Moms In Motion. I started swimming and now running. I loved going to the UCSB pool every Saturday and sort of got over the pain of running after a while. Once in the ocean-panic, but I got over that too(although I never did put my face in the water to see the sharks).
That's next years goal.
I finished the triathlon with friends and family watching and was very proud of myself. With all the training I have lost over 40 lbs, and fit into all my skinny clothes again. Actually even the skinny clothes are getting baggy. This morning I continue to run and swim and feel great again.
Mom's in Motion motivated me to get in shape again and I thank you for this from the bottom of my heart. I will never put work in front of my physical well being, it's just not worth it. I am a better person all around once again.
